BPL is a Bangladesh professional cricket league that consists of 7 franchises. In Bangladesh, BPL is one of the 3 cricket leagues. Each team play each other 2 times in league stage in November. After the regular season, the 4 best teams go for playoffs. After one elimination game and 2 qualifiers, a championship game is played between the first and the second qualifier. BPL league started in 2011 after suspension of the National Cricket League Twenty20. It was formed by Bangladesh Cricket Board. BPL ranks among most popular and exciting T20 leagues in the whole world.BPL T20 Cricket 2018-19 season will be the 6th season of Bangladesh Premier League. This is considered the highest level professional T20 cricket league in Bangladesh.
The competition is being organised by Bangladesh Cricket Board. As usual, it will be played by 7 teams from 7 Cities in Bangladesh. There is a current restriction to have only 4 overseas players in each side. The previous edition used to have 5. The current defending champions of BPL T20 Cricket are the Rangpur Riders.The 2018-19 season was initially planned to commence on October 1, 2018 and end on November 16, 2018. A report in May 2018 suggested that there were security concerns to hold the games in the scheduled dates due to oncoming general elections in Bangladesh.
The elections were also scheduled around the same time. There was a recommendation by the organisers to move the tournament to January 2019. A confirmation was made in July 2018 that the tournament was scheduled to happen between January 5 and February 8, 2019.DRS (Decision Review System) will be used in 2019 season for the first time. The teams named their icon players and retained players by September 30, 2018. Players’ draft that was supposed to be done on October 25, 2018 was moved to October 28, 2018. The Bangladesh-Zimbabwe ODI series was scheduled to happen on the same date hence the change.The 7 participating franchises in BPL T20 2019 are Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Dynamites, Sylhet Sixers, Khulna Titans, Comilla Victorians, Rajshani Kings, and Chittagong Vikings. Base price defined for foreign players increased to $200,000 for A+ category. Those for A,B,C,D, and E also increased.
